Each man had to make provision for one month in the year. 8 These were their names: Ben-hur, in ^athe hill country of Ephraim; 9 Ben-deker, in Makaz, Shaalbim, Beth-shemesh, and Elonbeth-hanan; 10 Ben-hesed, in Arubboth (to him belonged Socoh and all the land of Hepher); 11 Ben-abinadab, in all ^bNaphath-dor (he had Taphath the daughter of Solomon as his wife); 12 Baana the son of Ahilud, in ^cTaanach, Megiddo, and all ^dBeth-shean that is beside Zarethan below Jezreel, and from Beth-shean to Abel-meholah, as far as the other side of Jokmeam; 13 Ben-geber, ^ein Ramoth-gilead (he had ^fthe villages of Jair the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead, and he had ^gthe region of Argob, which is in Bashan, sixty great cities with walls and bronze bars); 14 Ahinadab the son of Iddo, in Mahanaim; 15 Ahimaaz, in Naphtali (he had taken Basemath the daughter of Solomon as his wife); 16 Baana the son of Hushai, in Asher and Bealoth; 17 Jehoshaphat the son of Paruah, in Issachar; 18 ^hShimei the son of Ela, in Benjamin; 19 Geber the son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, ⁱthe country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan. And there was one governor who was over the land.

1 This is the number of the people of Israel, the heads of fathers’ houses, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and their officers who served the king in all matters concerning the divisions that came and went, month after month throughout the year, each division numbering 24,000:

2 ^jJashobeam the son of Zabdiel was in charge of the first division in the first month; in his division were 24,000. 3 He was a ^kdescendant of Perez and was chief of all the commanders. He served for the first month. 4 ^lDodai the Ahohite ^{▼▼Septuagint; Hebrew Ahohite and his division and Mikloth the chief officer} was in charge of the division of the second month; in his division were 24,000. 5 The third commander, for the third month, was ⁿBenaiah, the son of Jehoiada the chief priest; in his division were 24,000. 6 This is the Benaiah ^owho was a mighty man of the thirty and in command of the thirty; Ammizabad his son was in charge of his division. ^{▼▼Septuagint, Vulgate; Hebrew was his division} 7 ^qAsahel the brother of Joab was fourth, for the fourth month, and his son Zebadiah after him; in his division were 24,000. 8 The fifth commander, for the fifth month, was ^rShamhuth the Izrahite; in his division were 24,000. 9 Sixth, for the sixth month, was ^sIra, the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite; in his division were 24,000. 10 Seventh, for the seventh month, was ^tHelez the Pelonite, of the sons of Ephraim; in his division were 24,000. 11 Eighth, for the eighth month, was ^uSibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zerahites; in his division were 24,000. 12 Ninth, for the ninth month, was ^vAbiezer of Anathoth, a Benjaminite; in his division were 24,000. 13 Tenth, for the tenth month, was ^wMaharai of Netophah, of the Zerahites; in his division were 24,000. 14 Eleventh, for the eleventh month, was ^xBenaiah of Pirathon, of the sons of Ephraim; in his division were 24,000. 15 Twelfth, for the twelfth month, was ^yHeldai the Netophathite, of ^zOthniel; in his division were 24,000.
