1 Kings 8:29-30

29 athat your eyes may be open night and day toward this house, the place of which you have said, b‘My name shall be there,’ that you may listen to the prayer that your servant offers toward this place. 30And listen to the plea of your servant and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. And listen in heaven your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.

Joel 1:13-20

A Call to Repentance

13 cPut on sackcloth and lament, dO priests;
ewail, O ministers of the altar.
Go in, fpass the night in sackcloth,
gO ministers of my God!
hBecause grain offering and drink offering
are withheld from the house of your God.
14 iConsecrate a fast;
jcall a solemn assembly.
Gather kthe elders
and lall the inhabitants of the land
to the house of the Lord your God,
and cry out to the Lord.
15 Alas for the day!
mFor the day of the Lord is near,
and as destruction from the Almighty
 Destruction sounds like the Hebrew for  Almighty
it comes.
16Is not the food cut off
before our eyes,
ojoy and gladness
from the house of our God?
17 pThe seed shrivels under the clods;
The meaning of the Hebrew line is uncertain

the storehouses are desolate;
the granaries are torn down
because rthe grain has dried up.
18How sthe beasts groan!
The herds of cattle are perplexed
because there is no pasture for them;
even the flocks of sheep suffer.
Or are made desolate

19 To you, uO Lord, I call.
vFor fire has devoured
the pastures of the wilderness,
wand flame has burned
all the trees of the field.
20Even the beasts of the field xpant for you
because the water brooks are dried up,
yand fire has devoured
the pastures of the wilderness.

Joel 2:15-17

15 zBlow the trumpet in Zion;
aaconsecrate a fast;
call a solemn assembly;
16gather the people.
abConsecrate the congregation;
assemble the elders;
acgather the children,
even nursing infants.
adLet the bridegroom leave his room,
and the bride her chamber.
17 aeBetween the afvestibule and the agaltar
ahlet the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep
and say, “Spare your people, O Lord,
and make not your heritage a reproach,
a byword among the nations.
Or  reproach, that the nations should rule over them

ajWhy should they say among the peoples,
Where is their God?’”
