1 Samuel 13:2

2Saul chose three thousand men of Israel. Two thousand were with Saul in aMichmash and the hill country of Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in bGibeah of Benjamin. The rest of the people he sent home, every man to his tent.

1 Samuel 13:22

22So on the day of the battle cthere was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people with Saul and Jonathan, but Saul and Jonathan his son had them.

1 Samuel 14:39-45

39For das the Lord lives who saves Israel, ethough it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die.” But there was not a man among all the people who answered him. 40Then he said to all Israel, “You shall be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side.” And the people said to Saul, “Do what seems good to you.” 41Therefore Saul said, “O Lord God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant this day? If this guilt is in me or in Jonathan my son, O Lord, God of Israel, give Urim. But if this guilt is in your people Israel, give Thummim.”

gAnd Jonathan and Saul were taken, but the people escaped.
42Then Saul said, hCast the lot between me and my son Jonathan.” And Jonathan was taken.

43Then Saul said to Jonathan, iTell me what you have done.” And Jonathan told him, j“I tasted a little honey with the tip of the staff that was in my hand. Here I am; I will die.” 44And Saul said, kGod do so to me and more also; lyou shall surely die, Jonathan.” 45Then the people said to Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it! mAs the Lord lives, nthere shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he has worked with God this day.” So the people ransomed Jonathan, so that he did not die.

1 Samuel 18:1-4

David and Jonathan’s Friendship

1As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan oloved him as his own soul. 2And Saul took him that day pand would not let him return to his father’s house. 3Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because qhe loved him as his own soul. 4And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt.

2 Samuel 1:4-5

4And David said to him, rHow did it go? Tell me.” And he answered, “The people fled from the battle, and also many of the people have fallen and are dead, and Saul and his son Jonathan are also dead.” 5Then David said to the young man who told him, “How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?”

2 Samuel 1:25-26

25 sHow the mighty have fallen
in the midst of the battle!
Jonathan lies slain on your high places.
26I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan;
very pleasant have you been to me;
tyour love to me was extraordinary,
surpassing the love of women.
