17 And Samuel said, ^a“Though you are little in your own eyes, are you not the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel.

29 For when they are humbled you say, ‘It is because of pride’; ^{▼▼Or you say, ‘It is exaltation’}
but he saves ^cthe lowly.

27 For you save ^da humble people,
but ^ethe haughty eyes you bring down.

33 ^fThe fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom,
and ^ghumility comes before honor.

23 ^hOne’s pride will bring him low,
ⁱbut he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.
