21 aBut the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the best of the things devoted to destruction, to sacrifice to the Lord your God in Gilgal.” 22And Samuel said,b“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
as in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, cto obey is better than sacrifice,
and to listen than the fat of rams.
23For rebellion is as the sin of divination,
and presumption is as iniquity and didolatry.
Because eyou have rejected the word of the Lord,
fhe has also rejected you from being king.”
24Saul said to Samuel, g“I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.
Isaiah 1:11-13
11 h“What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices?says the Lord;
I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams
and the fat of well-fed beasts;
I do not delight in the blood of bulls,
or of lambs, or of goats.
12 “When you come to iappear before me,
who has required of you
this trampling of my courts?
13Bring no more vain offerings;
incense is an abomination to me.
jNew moon and Sabbath and the kcalling of convocations—
I cannot endure liniquity and msolemn assembly.
Jeremiah 7:8-11
8“Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail. 9 nWill you steal, murder, commit adultery, oswear falsely, pmake offerings to Baal, qand go after other gods that you have not known, 10and then come and stand before me in this house, rwhich is called by my name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—only to go on doing all these abominations? 11 sHas this house, twhich is called by my name, ubecome a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen it, declares the Lord.Amos 5:21-24
21 v“I hate, I despise your feasts,and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies.
22 wEven though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings,
I will not accept them;
and the peace offerings of your fattened animals,
I will not look upon them.
23Take away from me the noise of your songs;
to xthe melody of your harps I will not listen.
24But let justice roll down like waters,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
