1 Samuel 16:1

David Anointed King

1 The Lord said to Samuel, ^a“How long will you grieve over Saul, since ^bI have rejected him from being king over Israel? ^cFill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, ^dfor I have provided for myself a king among his sons.”

1 Samuel 16:12

12 And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ^eruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the Lord said, ^f“Arise, anoint him, for this is he.”

2 Samuel 7:12-16

12 ^gWhen your days are fulfilled and ^hyou lie down with your fathers, ⁱI will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 ^jHe shall build a house for my name, and ^kI will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 ^lI will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son.
