1 Samuel 16:1

David Anointed King

1The Lord said to Samuel, aHow long will you grieve over Saul, since bI have rejected him from being king over Israel? cFill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, dfor I have provided for myself a king among his sons.”

1 Samuel 16:3

3And invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do. eAnd you shall anoint for me him whom I declare to you.”

1 Samuel 16:12-13

12And he sent and brought him in. Now he was fruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the Lord said, gArise, anoint him, for this is he.” 13Then Samuel took hthe horn of oil iand anointed him in the midst of his brothers. jAnd the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

2 Samuel 3:18

18Now then bring it about, kfor the Lord has promised David, saying, ‘By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines, and from the hand of all their enemies.’”

David’s Mighty Men

10 lNow these are the chiefs of David’s mighty men, who gave him strong support in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, maccording to the word of the Lord concerning Israel.
