1 Samuel 17:45-51

45Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with aa javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, bwhom you have defied. 46This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. cAnd I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day dto the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, ethat all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, 47and that all this assembly may know that fthe Lord saves not with sword and spear. gFor the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hand.”

48When the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine. 49And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone and slung it and struck the Philistine on his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground.

50So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in the hand of David. 51Then David ran and stood over the Philistine hand took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, ithey fled.

6 jAnd the king and his men went to Jerusalem kagainst the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who said to David, “You will not come in here, but the blind and the lame will ward you off”—thinking, “David cannot come in here.” 7Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion, lthat is, the city of David. 8And David said on that day, “Whoever would strike the Jebusites, let him get up the water shaft to attack ‘the lame and the blind,’ who are hated by David’s soul.” Therefore it is said, “The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.” 9And David lived in the stronghold and called it mthe city of David. And David built the city all around from the nMillo inward. 10And David became greater and greater, for the Lord, the God of hosts, was with him.

11 oAnd pHiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, also carpenters and masons who built David a house. 12And David knew that the Lord had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.

13And David took more qconcubines and wives from Jerusalem, after he came from Hebron, and more sons and daughters were born to David. 14 rAnd these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, 15Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, 16Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet.

And Joram brought with him articles of silver, of gold, and of bronze. 11 ajThese also King David dedicated to the Lord, together with the silver and gold that he dedicated from all the nations he subdued, 12from Edom, akMoab, althe Ammonites, amthe Philistines, anAmalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of aoZobah.
