David and Jonathan’s Friendship

1As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan aloved him as his own soul. 2And Saul took him that day band would not let him return to his father’s house. 3Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because che loved him as his own soul. 4And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt.

1 Samuel 20:14-17

14If I am still alive, show me the steadfast love of the Lord, that I may not die; 15 dand do not cut off
Or but if I die, do not cut off
your steadfast love from my house forever, when the Lord cuts off every one of the enemies of David from the face of the earth.”
16And Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, f“May
Septuagint  earth, 16let not the name of Jonathan be cut off from the house of David. And may
the Lord take vengeance on David’s enemies.”
17And Jonathan made David swear again by his love for him, hfor he loved him as he loved his own soul.

1 Samuel 20:42

42Then Jonathan said to David, iGo in peace, because we have sworn both of us in the name of the Lord, saying, j‘The Lord shall be between me and you, kand between my offspring and your offspring, forever.’” And he rose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city.

1 Samuel 23:16-18

16And Jonathan, Saul’s son, rose and went to David at Horesh, and strengthened his hand in God. 17And he said to him, “Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. mSaul my father also knows this.” 18 nAnd the two of them made a covenant before the Lord. David remained at Horesh, and Jonathan went home.

2 Samuel 1:26

26I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan;
very pleasant have you been to me;
oyour love to me was extraordinary,
surpassing the love of women.

1 Kings 2:7

they met me when I fled from Absalom your brother.

Proverbs 27:10

10Do not forsake your friend and tyour father’s friend,
and do not go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity.
uBetter is a neighbor who is near
than a brother who is far away.
