17Then Saul said to David, “Here is amy elder daughter Merab. bI will give her to you for a wife. Only be valiant for me cand fight the Lord’s battles.” For Saul thought, “Let not my hand be against him, dbut let the hand of the Philistines be against him.”

1 Samuel 31:2-4

2And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons, and the Philistines struck down eJonathan and fAbinadab and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul. 3 gThe battle pressed hard against Saul, and the archers found him, and he was badly wounded by the archers. 4 hThen Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these iuncircumcised come and thrust me through, and mistreat me.” But his armor-bearer would not, jfor he feared greatly. Therefore Saul took his own sword kand fell upon it.

2 Samuel 17:2-4

2I will come upon him while he is lweary and discouraged and throw him into a panic, and all the people who are with him will flee. mI will strike down only the king, 3and I will bring all the people back to you as a bride comes home to her husband. You seek the life of only one man,
Septuagint; Hebrew  back to you. Like the return of the whole is the man whom you seek
and all the people will be at peace.”
4And the advice seemed right in the eyes of Absalom and all the elders of Israel.

23When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey and went off home to ohis own city. He pset his house in order and qhanged himself, and he died and was buried in the tomb of his father.

2 Samuel 18:14-15

14Joab said, “I will not waste time like this with you.” And he took three javelins in his hand and thrust them into the heart of Absalom while he was still alive in the oak. 15And ten young men, Joab’s armor-bearers, surrounded Absalom and struck him and killed him.
