1 Samuel 2:29-30

29Why then do you ascorn
Hebrew kick at
my sacrifices and my offerings that I commanded for my dwelling, and honor your sons above me by fattening yourselves on the choicest parts of every offering of my people Israel?’
30Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: c‘I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’ dbut now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

2 Kings 16:10-16

10When King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet eTiglath-pileser king of Assyria, he saw the altar that was at Damascus. And King Ahaz sent to fUriah the priest a model of the altar, and its pattern, exact in all its details. 11And Uriah the priest built the altar; in accordance with all that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus, so Uriah the priest made it, before King Ahaz arrived from Damascus. 12And when the king came from Damascus, the king viewed the altar. gThen the king drew near to the altar and went up on it 13and burned his burnt offering and his grain offering and poured his drink offering and threw the blood of his peace offerings on the altar. 14And hthe bronze altar that was before the Lord he removed ifrom the front of the house, from the place between jhis altar and the house of the Lord, and put it on the north side of khis altar. 15And King Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, saying, “On the great altar burn lthe morning burnt offering and the evening grain offering and the king’s burnt offering and his grain offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their grain offering and their drink offering. And throw on it all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice, but mthe bronze altar shall be for me to inquire by.” 16Uriah the priest did all this, as King Ahaz commanded.

Isaiah 9:16

16for those who guide this people have been leading them astray,
and those who are guided by them are swallowed up.

Hosea 4:6

6My people are destroyed nfor lack of knowledge;
obecause you have rejected knowledge,
I reject you pfrom being a priest to me.
And since you have forgotten the law of your God,
qI also will forget your children.

Punishment Coming for Israel and Judah

1 rHear this, O priests!
Pay attention, O house of Israel!
Give ear, O house of the king!
For the judgment is for you;
for syou have been a snare at Mizpah
and a net spread upon tTabor.

Malachi 2:8-9

8But you have turned aside from the way. uYou have caused many to stumble by your instruction. You have corrupted vthe covenant of Levi, says the Lord of hosts, 9and so wI make you despised and abased before all the people, inasmuch as you do not keep my ways but xshow partiality in your instruction.”
