1 Samuel 2:7-8

7 aThe Lord makes poor and makes rich;
bhe brings low and he exalts.
8 cHe raises up the poor from the dust;
he lifts the needy from the ash heap
dto make them sit with princes
and inherit a seat of honor.
eFor the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s,
and on them he has set the world.

4 Then I said, “These are only the poor;
they have no sense;
nfor they do not know the way of the Lord,
the justice of their God.
5I will go to the great
and will speak to them,
for they know the way of the Lord,
the justice of their God.”
oBut they all alike had broken the yoke;
they had burst the bonds.

James 1:9-11

9Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, 10and pthe rich in his humiliation, because qlike a flower of the grass
Or  a wild flower
he will pass away.
11For the sun rises with its scorching heat and swithers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

James 2:1-7

The Sin of Partiality

1My brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters; also verses 5, 14
ushow no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, vthe Lord of glory.
2For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, 3and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” wwhile you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” 4have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become xjudges with evil thoughts? 5Listen, my beloved brothers, yhas not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be zrich in faith and heirs of aathe kingdom, abwhich he has promised to those who love him? 6But you achave dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who addrag you aeinto court? 7Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable afname by which you were called?
