19 aThen the Ziphites went up to Saul at Gibeah, saying, “Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hachilah, which is south of bJeshimon? 20Now come down, O king, according to all your heart’s desire to come down, cand our part shall be to surrender him into the king’s hand.” 21And Saul said, d“May you be blessed by the Lord, efor you have had compassion on me.

Jeremiah 38:4

4Then the officials said to the king, fLet this man be put to death, gfor he is weakening the hands of the soldiers who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking hthe welfare of this people, but their harm.”

Mark 6:23-25

23And he vowed to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, iup to half of my kingdom.” 24And she went out and said to her mother, “For what should I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.” 25And she came in immediately with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”

Luke 23:8-24

8When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, jfor he had long desired to see him, kbecause he had heard about him, and he was hoping lto see some sign done by him. 9So he questioned him at some length, but he made no answer. 10The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him. 11And Herod with his soldiers mtreated him with contempt and nmocked him. Then, oarraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate. 12And pHerod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other.

13Pilate then called together the chief priests and qthe rulers and the people, 14and said to them, “You brought me this man ras one who was misleading the people. And safter examining him before you, behold, I tdid not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him. 15Neither did Herod, for uhe sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him. 16 vI will therefore punish and release him.”
Here, or after verse 19, some manuscripts add verse 17: Now he was obliged to release one man to them at the festival


Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified

18 xBut they all cried out together, y“Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”— 19a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and zfor murder. 20Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus, 21but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!” 22A third time he said to them, “Why, aaWhat evil has he done? abI have found in him no guilt deserving death. acI will therefore punish and release him.” 23But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed. 24So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.

Acts 9:2

2and asked him for letters adto the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to aethe Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
