1 Samuel 31:11-13

11 ^aBut when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul, 12 ^ball the valiant men arose and went all night and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and they came to Jabesh ^cand burned them there. 13 And they took their bones ^dand buried them under ^ethe tamarisk tree in Jabesh and ^ffasted seven days.

2 Samuel 2:5-7

5 David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh-gilead and said to them, ^g“May you be blessed by the Lord, because you showed this loyalty to Saul your lord and buried him. 6 Now may the Lord show steadfast love and faithfulness to you. And I will do good to you because you have done this thing. 7 Now therefore let your hands be strong, and be valiant, for Saul your lord is dead, and ^hthe house of Judah has anointed me king over them.”
