10 So the Philistines fought, ^aand Israel was defeated, ^band they fled, every man to his home. And there was a very great slaughter, for thirty thousand foot soldiers of Israel fell. 11 ^cAnd the ark of God was captured, ^dand the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, died.

1 Samuel 4:18

18 As soon as he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell over backward ^efrom his seat by the side of the gate, and his neck was broken and he died, for the man was old and heavy. He had judged Israel forty years.

1 But all this I laid to heart, examining it all, ^hhow the righteous and the wise and their deeds are ⁱin the hand of God. Whether it is love or hate, man does not know; both are before him. 2 ^jIt is the same for all, since ^kthe same event happens to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil, ^{▼▼Septuagint, Syriac, Vulgate; Hebrew lacks and the evil} to the clean and the unclean, to him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As the good one is, so is the sinner, and he who ^mswears is as he who shuns an oath.

Hosea 13:10-11
