Samuel Judges Israel

3And Samuel said to all the house of Israel, aIf you are returning to the Lord with all your heart, then bput away the foreign gods and the cAshtaroth from among you and ddirect your heart to the Lord eand serve him only, and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.” 4So the people of Israel put away the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and they served the Lord only.

1 Kings 18:21

21And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long fwill you go limping between two different opinions? gIf the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word.

2 Kings 17:33-34

33So they feared the Lord but also served their own gods, after the manner of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.

34To this day they do according to the former manner. They do not fear the Lord, and they do not follow the statutes or the rules or the law or the commandment that the Lord commanded the children of Jacob, hwhom he named Israel.

5And he deposed the priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to make offerings in the high places at the cities of Judah and around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and the moon and the constellations mand all the host of the heavens. 6And he brought out nthe Asherah from the house of the Lord, outside Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, oand burned it at the brook Kidron pand beat it to dust and cast the dust of it upon the graves qof the common people. 7And he broke down the houses of rthe male cult prostitutes who were in the house of the Lord, swhere the women wove hangings for tthe Asherah.

2 Chronicles 33:4-5

4And he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, u“In Jerusalem shall my name be forever.” 5And he built altars for all the host of heaven in vthe two courts of the house of the Lord.
