Samuel Judges Israel

3 And Samuel said to all the house of Israel, ^a“If you are returning to the Lord with all your heart, then ^bput away the foreign gods and the ^cAshtaroth from among you and ^ddirect your heart to the Lord ^eand serve him only, and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.” 4 So the people of Israel put away the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and they served the Lord only.

1 Kings 18:21

21 And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long ^fwill you go limping between two different opinions? ^gIf the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word.

2 Kings 17:33-34

33 So they feared the Lord but also served their own gods, after the manner of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.

5 And he deposed the priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to make offerings in the high places at the cities of Judah and around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and the moon and the constellations ^mand all the host of the heavens. 6 And he brought out ⁿthe Asherah from the house of the Lord, outside Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, ^oand burned it at the brook Kidron ^pand beat it to dust and cast the dust of it upon the graves ^qof the common people. 7 And he broke down the houses of ^rthe male cult prostitutes who were in the house of the Lord, ^swhere the women wove hangings for ^tthe Asherah.

2 Chronicles 33:4-5
