1 Samuel 7:3-4

Samuel Judges Israel

3And Samuel said to all the house of Israel, aIf you are returning to the Lord with all your heart, then bput away the foreign gods and the cAshtaroth from among you and ddirect your heart to the Lord eand serve him only, and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.” 4So the people of Israel put away the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and they served the Lord only.

8As soon as Asa heard these words, fthe prophecy of Azariah the son of Oded, he took courage and put away the detestable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from gthe cities that he had taken in hthe hill country of Ephraim, and he repaired the altar of the Lord ithat was in front of the vestibule of the house of the Lord.

9And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, kand those from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon who were residing with them, for great numbers had deserted to him from Israel when they saw that the Lord his God was with him. 10They were gathered at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa. 11They sacrificed to the Lord on that day lfrom the spoil that they had brought 700 oxen and 7,000 sheep. 12 mAnd they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul, 13but that whoever would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, nshould be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman.

10Now oit is in my heart pto make a covenant with the Lord, the God of Israel, in order that his fierce anger may turn away from us. 11My sons, do not now be negligent, qfor the Lord has chosen you to stand in his presence, to minister to him and to be his ministers and make offerings to him.”

Malachi 4:6

6And he will rturn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and sstrike the land with a decree of utter destruction.”
