1 Samuel 8:7-9

7And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, afor they have not rejected you, bbut they have rejected me from being king over them. 8According to all the deeds that they have done, from the day I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are also doing to you. 9Now then, obey their voice; only you shall solemnly warn them cand show them the ways of the king who shall reign over them.”

1 Samuel 10:19

19 dBut today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your calamities and your distresses, and you have said to him, ‘Set a king over us.’ Now therefore epresent yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and by your thousands.”

1 Samuel 12:13

1 Samuel 15:22-23

22And Samuel said,

h“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
as in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, ito obey is better than sacrifice,
and to listen than the fat of rams.
23For rebellion is as the sin of divination,
and presumption is as iniquity and jidolatry.
Because kyou have rejected the word of the Lord,
lhe has also rejected you from being king.”

1 Samuel 16:1

David Anointed King

1 Samuel 31:1-7

The Death of Saul

1 qNow the Philistines were fighting against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before the Philistines and fell slain ron Mount Gilboa. 2And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons, and the Philistines struck down sJonathan and tAbinadab and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul. 3 uThe battle pressed hard against Saul, and the archers found him, and he was badly wounded by the archers. 4 vThen Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these wuncircumcised come and thrust me through, and mistreat me.” But his armor-bearer would not, xfor he feared greatly. Therefore Saul took his own sword yand fell upon it. 5And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword and died with him. 6Thus Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor-bearer, and all his men, on the same day together. 7And when the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley and those beyond the Jordan saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled. And the Philistines came and lived in them.
