Hebrews 11:32-38

32 And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of ^cGideon, ^dBarak, ^eSamson, ^fJephthah, of ^gDavid and ^hSamuel and the prophets— 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, ⁱstopped the mouths of lions, 34 ^jquenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, ^kbecame mighty in war, ^lput foreign armies to flight. 35 ^mWomen received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life. 36 Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even ⁿchains and imprisonment. 37 ^oThey were stoned, they were sawn in two, ^{▼▼Some manuscripts add they were tempted} ^qthey were killed with the sword. ^rThey went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated— 38 of whom the world was not worthy— ^swandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

1 Peter 2:20-21

20 For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But ^tif when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. 21 For ^uto this you have been called, ^vbecause Christ also suffered for you, ^wleaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.

1 Peter 3:14

Suffering as a Christian

12 Beloved, do not be surprised at ^aathe fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice ^abinsofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad ^acwhen his glory is revealed. 14 ^adIf you are insulted ^aefor the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory ^{▼▼Some manuscripts insert and of power} and of God rests upon you. 15 But ^aglet none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or ^ahas a meddler. 16 Yet ^aiif anyone suffers as a ^ajChristian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God ^akin that name.

1 Peter 5:9-10

9 ^alResist him, ^amfirm in your faith, knowing that ^anthe same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And ^aoafter you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, ^apwho has called you to his ^aqeternal glory in Christ, will himself ^arrestore, ^asconfirm, strengthen, and establish you.
