2 Chronicles 36:14-17

14All the officers of the priests and the people likewise were exceedingly unfaithful, following all the abominations of the nations. And they polluted the house of the Lord that he had made holy in Jerusalem.

15The Lord, the God of their fathers, asent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. 16 bBut they kept mocking the messengers of God, cdespising his words and scoffing at his prophets, duntil the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy.

Jerusalem Captured and Burned

17 eTherefore he brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or aged. He gave them all into his hand.

Ezra 9:6-7

6saying:

“O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift my face to you, my God, for our iniquities fhave risen higher than our heads, and our gguilt has hmounted up to the heavens.
7 iFrom the days of our fathers to this day we have been in great jguilt. And for our iniquities we, our kings, and our priests have been given into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to plundering, kand to utter shame, as it is today.

Ezra 9:13

13And after all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and for lour great guilt, seeing that you, our mGod, have punished us less than our iniquities deserved and have given us such a nremnant as this,

Nehemiah 9:26-36

26 o“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you pand cast your law behind their back qand killed your prophets, who rhad warned them in order to turn them back to you, sand they committed great blasphemies. 27 tTherefore you gave them into the hand of their enemies, who made them suffer. uAnd in the time of their suffering they cried out to you and you heard them from heaven, and according to your great mercies you gave them vsaviors who saved them from the hand of their enemies. 28 wBut after they had rest they did evil again before you, and you abandoned them to the hand of their enemies, so that they had dominion over them. Yet when they turned and cried to you, you heard from heaven, xand many times you delivered them according to your mercies. 29 yAnd you warned them in order to turn them back to your law. Yet zthey acted presumptuously and did not obey your commandments, but sinned against your rules, aawhich if a person does them, he shall live by them, aband they turned a stubborn shoulder acand stiffened their neck and would not obey. 30Many years adyou bore with them aeand warned them afby your Spirit through your prophets. agYet they would not give ear. ahTherefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands. 31Nevertheless, aiin your great mercies ajyou did not make an end of them or forsake them, akfor you are a gracious and merciful God.

32Now, therefore, our God, althe great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love, let not all the hardship seem little to you that has come upon us, upon our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers, and all your people, amsince the time of the kings of Assyria until this day. 33 anYet you have been righteous in all that has come upon us, for you have dealt faithfully aoand we have acted wickedly. 34Our kings, our princes, our priests, and our fathers have not kept your law or paid attention to your commandments and your warnings that you gave them. 35Even in their own kingdom, apand amid your great goodness that you gave them, and in the large and aqrich land that you set before them, arthey did not serve you or turn from their wicked works. 36Behold, aswe are slaves this day; in the land that you gave to our fathers to enjoy its fruit and its good gifts, behold, we are slaves.

Isaiah 1:4-5

4 Ah, sinful nation,
a people laden with iniquity,
atoffspring of evildoers,
children who deal corruptly!
They have forsaken the Lord,
they have audespised avthe Holy One of Israel,
they are utterly awestranged.
5 Why will you still be axstruck down?
Why will you aycontinue to rebel?
The whole head is sick,
and the whole heart faint.

Isaiah 1:21-24

The Unfaithful City

21 How the faithful city
azhas become a whore,
Or  become unchaste

bbshe who was full of justice!
Righteousness lodged in her,
but now murderers.
22 bcYour silver has become dross,
your best wine mixed with water.
23Your princes are rebels
and companions of thieves.
Everyone bdloves a bribe
and runs after gifts.
beThey do not bring justice to the fatherless,
and the widow’s cause does not come to them.
24 Therefore the bfLord declares,
the Lord of hosts,
the bgMighty One of Israel:
Ah, I will get relief from my enemies
bhand avenge myself on my foes.

Jeremiah 32:30-35

30For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have done nothing but evil in my sight bifrom their youth. The children of Israel have done nothing but bjprovoke me to anger bkby the work of their hands, declares the Lord. 31This city has aroused my anger and wrath, from the day it was built to this day, blso that I will remove it from my sight 32because of all the evil of the children of Israel and the children of Judah that they did to provoke me to angerbmtheir kings and their officials, their priests and their prophets, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 33 bnThey have turned to me their back and not their face. And though I have taught them bopersistently, they have not listened bpto receive instruction. 34They set up bqtheir abominations in the house that is called by my name, to defile it. 35They built the high places of Baal brin the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, bsto offer up their sons and daughters to Molech, btthough I did not command them, nor did it enter into my mind, that they should do buthis abomination, bvto cause Judah to sin.
