15 The Lord, the God of their fathers, ^asent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. 16 ^bBut they kept mocking the messengers of God, ^cdespising his words and scoffing at his prophets, ^duntil the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy.

Jeremiah 3:8-11

8 She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, ^eI had sent her away with ^fa decree of divorce. ^gYet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she too went ^hand played the whore. 9 Because she took her whoredom lightly, she polluted the land, committing adultery with ⁱstone and tree. 10 Yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah did not return to me ^jwith her whole heart, but in pretense, declares the Lord.”
