16 aBut they kept mocking the messengers of God, bdespising his words and scoffing at his prophets, cuntil the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy.

Matthew 26:66

66What is your judgment?” They answered, d“He deserves death.”

Matthew 27:20-26

20Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to eask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. 21The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” 22Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” fThey all said, “Let him be crucified!” 23And he said, “Why? gWhat evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!”

Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified

24So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that ha riot was beginning, he took water and iwashed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of jthis man’s blood;

A Roman judicial penalty, consisting of a severe beating with a multi-lashed whip containing imbedded pieces of bone and metal
Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.

John 19:12-18

12From then on qPilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, “If you release this man, you are not Caesar’s friend. rEveryone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.” 13So when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on sthe judgment seat at a place called The Stone Pavement, and in Aramaic

He said to the Jews, wBehold your King!”
15They cried out, x“Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” 16 ySo he zdelivered him over to them to be crucified.

The Crucifixion

So they took Jesus,
17and aahe went out, abbearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. 18 acThere they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them.
