2 Chronicles 36:17-21

Jerusalem Captured and Burned

17 aTherefore he brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or aged. He gave them all into his hand. 18 bAnd all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king and of his princes, all these he brought to Babylon. 19 cAnd they burned the house of God and broke down the wall of Jerusalem and burned all its palaces with fire and destroyed all its precious vessels. 20He dtook into exile in Babylon those who had escaped from the sword, eand they became servants to him and to his sons until the establishment of the kingdom of Persia, 21to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had fenjoyed its Sabbaths. All the days that it lay desolate git kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.

Isaiah 24:1-12

Judgment on the Whole Earth

1 Behold, jthe Lord will empty the earth
Or land; also throughout this chapter
and make it desolate,
and he will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants.
2 lAnd it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest;
as with the slave, so with his master;
as with the maid, so with her mistress;
mas with the buyer, so with the seller;
as with the lender, so with the borrower;
nas with the creditor, so with the debtor.
3 oThe earth shall be utterly empty and utterly plundered;
pfor the Lord has spoken this word.
4 qThe earth mourns and withers;
the world languishes and withers;
the highest people of the earth languish.
5The earth lies rdefiled
under its inhabitants;
for sthey have transgressed the laws,
violated the statutes,
broken the everlasting covenant.
6Therefore ta curse devours the earth,
and its inhabitants usuffer for their guilt;
therefore the inhabitants of the earth are scorched,
and few men are left.
7 vThe wine mourns,
the vine languishes,
all the merry-hearted sigh.
8 wThe mirth of the tambourines is stilled,
the noise of the jubilant has ceased,
the mirth of the lyre is stilled.
9No more do they drink wine xwith singing;
strong drink is bitter to those who drink it.
10 yThe wasted city is broken down;
zevery house is shut up so that none can enter.
11 aaThere is an outcry in the streets for lack of wine;
aball joy has grown dark;
the gladness of the earth is banished.
12Desolation is left in the city;
the gates are battered into ruins.

Ezekiel 36:33-35

33Thus says the Lord God: On the day that aiI cleanse you from all your iniquities, ajI will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be rebuilt. 34And the land that was desolate shall be tilled, instead of being the desolation that it was in the sight of all who passed by. 35And they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like akthe garden of Eden, and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’
