Isaiah 37:14-21

Hezekiah’s Prayer for Deliverance

14Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord. 15And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: 16“O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, henthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; iyou have made heaven and earth. 17 jIncline your ear, O Lord, and hear; open your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear kall the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God. 18Truly, O Lord, lthe kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands, 19and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they were destroyed. 20So now, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the Lord.”

Sennacherib’s Fall

21Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,

Daniel 9:17-23

17Now therefore, O our God, listen to the prayer of your servant and to his pleas for mercy, and for your own sake, O Lord,
Hebrew  for the Lord’s sake
nmake your face to shine upon oyour sanctuary, which is desolate.
18 pO my God, incline your ear and hear. Open your eyes and see qour desolations, and rthe city that is called by your name. For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercy. 19O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act. sDelay not, tfor your own sake, O my God, because uyour city and vyour people are called by your name.”

Gabriel Brings an Answer

20 wWhile I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my plea before the Lord my God for xthe holy hill of my God, 21while I was speaking in prayer, the man yGabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the first, zcame to me in swift flight at aathe time of the evening sacrifice. 22 abHe made me understand, speaking with me and saying, “O Daniel, I have now come out to give you acinsight and understanding. 23 adAt the beginning of your pleas for mercy a word went out, aeand I have come to tell it to you, for afyou are greatly loved. Therefore consider the word agand understand the vision.
