the king of Assyria came against the land, and Menahem gave cPul a thousand talents
A  talent was about 75 pounds or 34 kilograms
of silver, that he might help him eto confirm his hold on the royal power.

2 Kings 16:7

7 fSo Ahaz sent messengers to gTiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and your son. Come up and rescue me from the hand of the king of Syria and from the hand of the king of Israel, who are attacking me.”
