5 ^aThen Rezin king of Syria and ^bPekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to wage war on Jerusalem, and they besieged Ahaz ^cbut could not conquer him. 6 At that time Rezin the king of Syria recovered ^dElath for Syria and drove the men of Judah from ^eElath, and the Edomites came to Elath, where they dwell to this day.

Judah Defeated

5 ^fTherefore the Lord his God gave him into the hand of the king of Syria, who defeated him and took captive a great number of his people and brought them to Damascus. He was also given into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with great force. 6 For ^gPekah the son of Remaliah killed 120,000 from Judah in one day, all of them men of valor, because they had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers.
