2 Kings 17:4-6

4But the king of Assyria found treachery in Hoshea, for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up and bound him in prison. 5Then the king of Assyria invaded all the land and came to Samaria, and for three years he besieged it.

The Fall of Israel

6In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria acaptured Samaria, band he carried the Israelites away to Assyria cand placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of dGozan, and in the cities of ethe Medes.

2 Kings 18:33-35

33 fHas any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? 34 gWhere are the gods of hHamath and iArpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and jIvvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? 35Who among all the gods of the lands have delivered their lands out of my hand, kthat the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”

Isaiah 10:7-14

7But he ldoes not so intend,
and his heart does not so think;
but it is in his heart to destroy,
and to cut off nations not a few;
8for he says:
m“Are not my commanders all kings?
9 nIs not oCalno like pCarchemish?
Is not qHamath like rArpad?
sIs not tSamaria like Damascus?
10As my hand has reached to uthe kingdoms of the idols,
whose carved images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samaria,
11shall I not do to Jerusalem and vher idols
was I have done to Samaria and her images?”
12 xWhen the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, yhe
Hebrew I
will punish the speech of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the boastful look in his eyes.
13 aaFor he says:

“By the strength of my hand I have done it,
and by my wisdom, for I have understanding;
I remove the boundaries of peoples,
and plunder their treasures;
like a bull I bring down those who sit on thrones.
14My hand has found like a nest
the wealth of the peoples;
and as one gathers eggs that have been forsaken,
so I have gathered all the earth;
and there was none that moved a wing
or opened the mouth or chirped.”

Isaiah 14:17

17who made the world like a desert
and overthrew its cities,
abwho did not let his prisoners go home?’

Isaiah 36:18-20

18Beware lest Hezekiah mislead you by saying, “The Lord will deliver us.” Has any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? 19 acWhere are the gods of adHamath and aeArpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? afHave they delivered Samaria out of my hand? 20 agWho among all the gods of these lands have delivered their lands out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”

Isaiah 37:18-19

18Truly, O Lord, ahthe kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands, 19and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they were destroyed.
