2 Kings 17:7-18

Exile Because of Idolatry

7And this occurred because the people of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, awho had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods 8 band walked in the customs of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel, cand in the customs that the kings of Israel had practiced. 9And the people of Israel did secretly against the Lord their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places in all their towns, dfrom watchtower to fortified city. 10They set up for themselves epillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree, 11and there they made offerings on all the high places, as the nations did whom the Lord carried away before them. And they did wicked things, provoking the Lord to anger, 12and they served idols, fof which the Lord had said to them, “You shall not do this.” 13Yet the Lord gwarned Israel and Judah hby every prophet iand every seer, saying, jTurn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the Law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”

14But they would not listen, kbut were stubborn, as their fathers had been, who did not believe in the Lord their God. 15They despised his statutes land his covenant that he made with their fathers and the warnings that he gave them. They went after mfalse idols nand became false, and they followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom the oLord had commanded them that they should not do like them. 16And they abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made for themselves metal images of ptwo calves; and they qmade an Asherah and rworshiped all the host of heaven and served sBaal. 17 tAnd they burned their sons and their daughters as offerings
Or made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire
and used vdivination and womens and xsold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger.
18Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel and removed them out of his sight. None was left but ythe tribe of Judah only.

5Oholah played the whore zwhile she was mine, and aashe lusted after her lovers abthe Assyrians, warriors 6clothed in purple, acgovernors and commanders, adall of them desirable young men, aehorsemen riding on horses. 7She bestowed her whoring upon them, the choicest men of Assyria all of them, and she defiled herself with all the idols of everyone after whom she lusted. 8She did not give up her whoring afthat she had begun in Egypt; for in her youth men had lain with her and handled her virgin bosom and poured out their whoring lust upon her. 9Therefore agI delivered her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the Assyrians, after whom she lusted.

Hosea 4:1-2

The Lord Accuses Israel

1 ahHear the word of the Lord, O children of Israel,
for aithe Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land.
There is no faithfulness or steadfast love,
and ajno knowledge of God in the land;
2 akthere is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery;
they break all bounds, and albloodshed follows bloodshed.

Hosea 4:11-14

11whoredom, wine, and new wine,
which amtake away the understanding.
12My people aninquire of a piece of wood,
and their walking staff gives them oracles.
For aoa spirit of whoredom has led them astray,
and they have left their God to play the whore.
13 apThey sacrifice on the tops of the mountains
and burn offerings on the hills,
aqunder oak, poplar, and terebinth,
because their shade is good.
Therefore your daughters play the whore,
and your brides commit adultery.
14I will not punish your daughters when they play the whore,
nor your brides when they commit adultery;
for arthe men themselves go aside with prostitutes
and sacrifice with ascult prostitutes,
and a people atwithout understanding shall come to ruin.

Hosea 7:7-10

7All of them are hot as an oven,
and they devour their rulers.
All autheir kings avhave fallen,
and none of them calls upon me.
8 Ephraim awmixes himself with the peoples;
Ephraim is a cake not turned.
9 axStrangers devour his strength,
and ayhe knows it not;
gray hairs are sprinkled upon him,
and azhe knows it not.
10 baThe pride of Israel testifies to his face;
Or in his presence

bcyet they do not return to the Lord their God,
nor seek him, for all this.

Hosea 8:4-6

4 bdThey made kings, bebut not through me.
They set up princes, but I knew it not.
With their silver and gold they made idols
for their own destruction.
5 bfI have
Hebrew He has
spurned your calf, O Samaria.
My anger burns against them.
bhHow long will they be incapable of innocence?
6For it is from Israel;
a craftsman made it;
it is not God.
biThe calf of Samaria
bjshall be broken to pieces.
Or  shall go up in flames

Amos 6:3-7

3 blO you who put far away the day of disaster
bmand bring near the seat of violence?
4 “Woe to those bnwho lie on bobeds of ivory
bpand stretch themselves out on their couches,
and eat lambs from the flock
bqand calves from the midst of the stall,
5 brwho sing idle songs to the sound of the harp
and like David bsinvent for themselves instruments of music,
6 btwho drink wine in bowls
and buanoint themselves with the finest oils,
but are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph!
7 bvTherefore they shall now be the first of those who go into exile,
and the revelry of those who stretch themselves out shall pass away.”
