2 Kings 17:9-18

9And the people of Israel did secretly against the Lord their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places in all their towns, afrom watchtower to fortified city. 10They set up for themselves bpillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree, 11and there they made offerings on all the high places, as the nations did whom the Lord carried away before them. And they did wicked things, provoking the Lord to anger, 12and they served idols, cof which the Lord had said to them, “You shall not do this.” 13Yet the Lord dwarned Israel and Judah eby every prophet fand every seer, saying, gTurn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the Law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”

14But they would not listen, hbut were stubborn, as their fathers had been, who did not believe in the Lord their God. 15They despised his statutes iand his covenant that he made with their fathers and the warnings that he gave them. They went after jfalse idols kand became false, and they followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom the lLord had commanded them that they should not do like them. 16And they abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made for themselves metal images of mtwo calves; and they nmade an Asherah and oworshiped all the host of heaven and served pBaal. 17 qAnd they burned their sons and their daughters as offerings
Or made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire
and used sdivination and tomens and usold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger.
18Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel and removed them out of his sight. None was left but vthe tribe of Judah only.

2 Chronicles 36:14-17

14All the officers of the priests and the people likewise were exceedingly unfaithful, following all the abominations of the nations. And they polluted the house of the Lord that he had made holy in Jerusalem.

15The Lord, the God of their fathers, wsent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. 16 xBut they kept mocking the messengers of God, ydespising his words and scoffing at his prophets, zuntil the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy.

Jerusalem Captured and Burned

17 aaTherefore he brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or aged. He gave them all into his hand.

Ezekiel 6:11

11Thus says the Lord God: abClap your hands acand stamp your foot and say, Alas, because of all the evil abominations of the house of Israel, adfor they shall fall by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.

Ezekiel 8:6-15

6And he said to me, “Son of man, aedo you see what they are doing, afthe great abominations that the house of Israel are committing here, agto drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see still greater abominations.”

7And he brought me to the entrance of the court, and when I looked, behold, there was a hole in the wall. 8Then he said to me, “Son of man, ahdig in the wall.” So I dug in the wall, and behold, there was an entrance. 9And he said to me, “Go in, and see aithe vile abominations that they are committing here.” 10So I went in and saw. And there, ajengraved on the wall all around, was akevery form of alcreeping things and loathsome beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel. 11And before them stood amseventy men of anthe elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of aoShaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and apthe smoke of the cloud of incense went up. 12Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing aqin the dark, each arin his room of pictures? For they say, as‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’” 13He said also to me, at“You will see still greater abominations that they commit.”

14Then he brought me to authe entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. 15Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O avson of man? awYou will see still greater abominations than these.”

Ezekiel 22:2-15

2“And you, axson of man, aywill you judge, will you judge azthe bloody city? baThen declare to her all her abominations. 3You shall say, Thus says the Lord God: A city that sheds blood in her midst, so that bbher time may come, and that makes idols to defile herself! 4You have become guilty bcby the blood that you have shed, and defiled by the idols that you have made, and you have brought bdyour days near, the appointed time of
Some Hebrew manuscripts, Septuagint, Syriac, Vulgate, Targum; most Hebrew manuscripts until
your years has come. bfTherefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mockery to all the countries.
5Those who are near and those who are far from you will mock you; bgyour name is defiled; bhyou are full of tumult.

6Behold, bithe princes of Israel in you, every one according to his power, have been bent on shedding blood. 7Father and mother bjare treated with contempt in you; the sojourner bksuffers extortion in your midst; the fatherless and the widow blare wronged in you. 8 bmYou have despised my holy things and bnprofaned my Sabbaths. 9 boThere are men in you who slander to shed blood, and people in you bpwho eat on the mountains; bqthey commit lewdness in your midst. 10In you brmen uncover their fathersnakedness; in you they violate women who are unclean in their menstrual impurity. 11 bsOne commits abomination with his neighbor’s wife; btanother lewdly defiles his daughter-in-law; buanother in you violates his sister, his father’s daughter. 12In you bvthey take bribes to shed blood; bwyou take interest and profit
That is, profit that comes from charging interest to the poor (compare Leviticus 25:36)
and make gain of your neighbors by extortion; but byme you have forgotten, declares the Lord God.

13Behold, bzI strike my hand at cathe dishonest gain that you have made, and at cbthe blood that has been in your midst. 14 ccCan your courage endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with you? cdI the Lord have spoken, and I will do it. 15 ceI will scatter you among the nations and disperse you through the countries, and cfI will consume your uncleanness out of you.

Ezekiel 22:25-31

25 cgThe conspiracy of her prophets in her midst is chlike a roaring lion citearing the prey; they have devoured human lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows in her midst. 26 cjHer priests ckhave done violence to my law and clhave profaned my holy things. cmThey have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they taught the difference between the unclean and the clean, and cnthey have disregarded my Sabbaths, coso that I am profaned among them. 27 cpHer princes in her midst are like wolves cqtearing the prey, crshedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain. 28And csher prophets have smeared whitewash for them, ctseeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ when the Lord has not spoken. 29The people of the land cuhave practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have oppressed the poor and needy, and cvhave extorted from the sojourner without justice. 30 cwAnd I sought for a man among them cxwho should build up the wall cyand stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none. 31Therefore czI have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have returned datheir way upon their heads, declares the Lord God.”

Ezekiel 36:17-18

17 dbSon of man, when the house of Israel lived in their own land, dcthey defiled it by their ways and their deeds. Their ways before me were ddlike the uncleanness of a woman in her menstrual impurity. 18So deI poured out my wrath upon them dffor the blood that they had shed in the land, for the idols dgwith which they had defiled it.
