7 And the carved image of ^cAsherah that he had made he set in the house of which the Lord said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house, ^dand in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever.

2 Kings 23:11-12

11 And he removed the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun, at the entrance to the house of the Lord, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the chamberlain, which was in the precincts. ^{▼▼The meaning of the Hebrew word is uncertain} And he burned the chariots of the sun with fire. 12 And the altars ^fon the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars ^gthat Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord, he pulled down and broke in pieces ^{▼▼Hebrew pieces from there} and cast the dust of them ⁱinto the brook Kidron.

2 Chronicles 33:4-7

4 And he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, ^j“In Jerusalem shall my name be forever.” 5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in ^kthe two courts of the house of the Lord. 6 ^lAnd he burned his sons as an offering ^min the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, and ⁿused fortune-telling and omens and sorcery, and dealt with ^omediums and with necromancers. 2 Chronicles 36:14

14 All the officers of the priests and the people likewise were exceedingly unfaithful, following all the abominations of the nations. And they polluted the house of the Lord that he had made holy in Jerusalem.

Ezekiel 5:11

11 Therefore, ^ras I live, declares the Lord God, surely, ^sbecause you have defiled my sanctuary ^twith all your detestable things and with all your ^uabominations, ^vtherefore I will withdraw. ^{▼▼Some Hebrew manuscripts I will cut you down} ^xMy eye will not spare, and I will have no pity.

Ezekiel 8:7-10

7 And he brought me to the entrance of the court, and when I looked, behold, there was a hole in the wall. 8 Then he said to me, “Son of man, ^ydig in the wall.” So I dug in the wall, and behold, there was an entrance. 9 And he said to me, “Go in, and see ^zthe vile abominations that they are committing here.” 10 So I went in and saw. And there, ^aaengraved on the wall all around, was ^abevery form of ^accreeping things and loathsome beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel.

Ezekiel 8:15-16

15 Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O ^adson of man? ^aeYou will see still greater abominations than these.”

16 And he brought me into ^afthe inner court of the house of the Lord. And behold, at the entrance of the temple of the Lord, ^agbetween the ^ahporch and ^aithe altar, were about twenty-five men, ^ajwith their backs to the temple of the Lord, and their faces toward the east, worshiping ^akthe sun toward the east.
