2 Kings 23:36-37

Jehoiakim Reigns in Judah

36 aJehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah. 37And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, baccording to all that his fathers had done.

Jeremiah 22:13-19

13 cWoe to him who builds his house by dunrighteousness,
and his upper rooms by injustice,
ewho makes his neighbor serve him for nothing
and does not give him his wages,
14who says, ‘I will build myself a great house
with spacious upper rooms,’
who cuts out windows for it,
paneling it with cedar
and fpainting it with vermilion.
15Do you think you are a king
because you compete in cedar?
Did not your father eat and drink
and gdo justice and righteousness?
hThen it was well with him.
16 iHe judged the cause of the poor and needy;
jthen it was well.
Is not this kto know me?
declares the Lord.
17But you have eyes and heart
only for your dishonest gain,
lfor shedding innocent blood,
and for practicing oppression and violence.”
18Therefore thus says the Lord concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

m“They shall not lament for him, saying,
nAh, my brother!’ or ‘Ah, sister!’
They shall not lament for him, saying,
oAh, lord!’ or ‘Ah, his majesty!’
19With the burial of a donkey phe shall be buried,
dragged and dumped beyond the gates of Jerusalem.”

Jeremiah 26:21-23

21And when qKing Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and all the officials, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death. But when Uriah heard of it, he was afraid and fled and escaped to Egypt. 22Then rKing Jehoiakim sent to Egypt certain men, sElnathan the son of tAchbor and others with him, 23and they took Uriah from Egypt and brought him to King Jehoiakim, uwho struck him down with the sword and dumped his dead body into the burial place of the common people.

Jeremiah 36:1

Jehoiakim Burns Jeremiah’s Scroll

1In the vfourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord:

Jeremiah 36:27-32

27Now after the king had burned the scroll with the words that Baruch wrote at Jeremiah’s dictation, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 28Take another scroll and write on it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned. 29And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, ‘Thus says the Lord, You have burned this scroll, saying, wWhy have you written in it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cut off from it man and beast?” 30Therefore thus says the Lord concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: xHe shall have none yto sit on the throne of David, zand his dead body shall be cast out to the heat by day and the frost by night. 31 aaAnd I will punish him and his offspring and his servants for their iniquity. I will bring upon them and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem and upon the people of Judah all the disaster that I have pronounced against them, but they would not hear.’”

32Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to abBaruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who acwrote on it at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the scroll that Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And many similar words were added to them.
