2 Kings 24:2-4

2And the Lord sent against him bands of the aChaldeans and bbands of the Syrians and bands of the Moabites and bands of the Ammonites, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, caccording to the word of the Lord that he spoke by his servants the prophets. 3Surely this came upon Judah at the command of the Lord, to remove them out of his sight, dfor the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done, 4and also efor the innocent blood that he had shed. For he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord would not pardon.

Lamentations 2:1-8

The Lord Has Destroyed Without Pity

1 How the Lord in his anger
has set the daughter of Zion wunder a cloud!
xHe has cast down from heaven to earth
the splendor of Israel;
he has not remembered yhis footstool
in the day of his anger.
2 The Lord zhas swallowed up aawithout mercy
all the habitations of Jacob;
in his wrath abhe has broken down
the strongholds of the daughter of Judah;
he has brought acdown to the ground adin dishonor
the kingdom aeand its rulers.
3 He has cut down in affierce anger
all agthe might of Israel;
ahhe has withdrawn from them his right hand
in the face of the enemy;
aihe has burned like a flaming fire in Jacob,
consuming all around.
4 ajHe has bent his bow like an enemy,
with his right hand set aklike a foe;
and he has killed all who were delightful in our eyes
in the tent of the daughter of Zion;
he has poured out his fury like fire.
5 alThe Lord has become like an enemy;
amhe has swallowed up Israel;
anhe has swallowed up all its palaces;
he has laid in ruins its strongholds,
and he has multiplied in the daughter of Judah
aomourning and lamentation.
6 He has laid waste his booth like a garden,
laid in ruins aphis meeting place;
aqthe Lord has made Zion forget
festival and arSabbath,
and in his fierce indignation has spurned king and priest.
7 asThe Lord has scorned his altar,
atdisowned his sanctuary;
auhe has delivered into the hand of the enemy
the walls of her palaces;
avthey raised a clamor in the house of the Lord
as on the day of festival.
8 awThe Lord determined to lay in ruins
axthe wall of the daughter of Zion;
ayhe stretched out the measuring line;
he did not restrain his hand from destroying;
azhe caused rampart and wall to lament;
bathey languished together.

Lamentations 2:17-22

17 The Lord has done what he purposed;
he has carried out bbhis word,
which he commanded bclong ago;
bdhe has thrown down bewithout pity;
bfhe has made the enemy rejoice over you
and exalted the bgmight of your foes.
18 Their heart cried to the Lord.
O bhwall of the daughter of Zion,
bilet tears stream down like a torrent
bjday and night!
bkGive yourself no rest,
blyour eyes no respite!
19 Arise, bmcry out in the night,
at the beginning of the night watches!
bnPour out your heart like water
before the presence of the Lord!
boLift your hands to him
for the lives of your children,
bpwho faint for hunger
at the head of every street.”
20 Look, O Lord, and see!
bqWith whom have you dealt thus?
brShould women eat the fruit of their womb,
the children of bstheir tender care?
Should btpriest and prophet be killed
in the sanctuary of the Lord?
21 In the dust of the streets
bulie the young and the old;
bvmy young women and my young men
have fallen by the sword;
bwyou have killed them in the day of your anger,
slaughtering bxwithout pity.
22 You summoned as if to bya festival day
bzmy terrors on every side,
caand on the day of the anger of the Lord
no one escaped or survived;
cbthose whom I held and raised
my enemy destroyed.
