12But the captain of the guard left asome of the poorest of the land to be vinedressers and plowmen.

Jeremiah 39:9-10

9Then bNebuzaradan, the ccaptain of the guard, carried into exile to Babylon the rest of the people who were left in the city, dthose who had deserted to him, and the people who remained. 10Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, eleft in the land of Judah some of the poor people who owned nothing, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.

Jeremiah 40:5-7

then return to gGedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, hwhom the king of Babylon appointed governor of the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people. Or go wherever you think it right to go.” So the captain of the guard gave him an allowance of food and a present, and let him go.
6Then Jeremiah went to iGedaliah the son of Ahikam, at jMizpah, and lived with him kamong the people lwho were left in the land.

7 mWhen all the captains of the forces in the open country and their men heard that nthe king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land and had committed to him men, women, and children, those of othe poorest of the land who had not been taken into exile to Babylon,

Ezekiel 33:24

24 pSon of man, the inhabitants of these qwaste places in the land of Israel keep saying, rAbraham was only one man, yet he got possession of the land; but swe are many; the land is surely given us to possess.’
