Jeremiah 6:13-15

13 dFor from the least to the greatest of them,
everyone eis greedy for unjust gain;
and from fprophet to priest,
everyone deals falsely.
14They have healed the wound of my people lightly,
saying, gPeace, peace,’
hwhen there is no peace.
15 iWere they ashamed when they committed abomination?
No, they were not at all ashamed;
they did not know how to blush.
Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;
jat the time that I punish them, they shall be overthrown,”

Ezekiel 8:11-18

11And before them stood kseventy men of lthe elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of mShaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and nthe smoke of the cloud of incense went up. 12Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing oin the dark, each pin his room of pictures? For they say, q‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’” 13He said also to me, r“You will see still greater abominations that they commit.”

14Then he brought me to sthe entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. 15Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O tson of man? uYou will see still greater abominations than these.”

16And he brought me into vthe inner court of the house of the Lord. And behold, at the entrance of the temple of the Lord, wbetween the xporch and ythe altar, were about twenty-five men, zwith their backs to the temple of the Lord, and their faces toward the east, worshiping aathe sun toward the east. 17Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O abson of man? Judgment on Wicked Counselors

1 ajThe Spirit lifted me up and brought me to akthe east gate of the house of the Lord, which faces east. And behold, at the entrance of the gateway there were altwenty-five men. And I saw among them Jaazaniah amthe son of Azzur, and anPelatiah the son of Benaiah, princes of the people. 2And he said to me, aoSon of man, these are the men who devise iniquity and who give wicked counsel in this city; 3 apwho say, aq‘The time is not near
Or Is not the time near . . . ?
to build houses. asThis city is the cauldron, and we are the meat.’
4Therefore prophesy against them; prophesy, O son of man.”

5And atthe Spirit of the Lord fell upon me, and he said to me, “Say, Thus says the Lord: So you think, O house of Israel. auFor I know the things that come into your mind. 6 avYou have multiplied your slain in this city and have filled its streets with the slain. 7Therefore thus says the Lord God: awYour slain whom you have laid in the midst of it, axthey are the meat, and aythis city is the cauldron, but you shall be brought out of the midst of it. 8 azYou have feared the sword, and I will bring the sword upon you, declares the Lord God. 9And I will bring you out of the midst of it, and bagive you into the hands of foreigners, and bbexecute judgments upon you. 10 bcYou shall fall by the sword. I will judge you at the border of Israel, bdand you shall know that I am the Lord. 11 beThis city shall not be your cauldron, nor shall you be the meat in the midst of it. I will judge you at the border of Israel,
