2 Kings 6:25-29

25And there was a great famine in Samaria, as they besieged it, until a donkey’s head was sold for eighty shekels of silver, and the fourth part of a kab
A  shekel was about 2/5 ounce or 11 grams; a  kab was about 1 quart or 1 liter
of dove’s dung for five shekels of silver.
26Now as the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to him, saying, “Help, my lord, O king!” 27And he said, “If the Lord will not help you, how shall I help you? From the threshing floor, or from the winepress?” 28And the king asked her, “What is your trouble?” She answered, “This woman said to me, ‘Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.’ 29 bSo we boiled my son and ate him. And on the next day I said to her, ‘Give your son, that we may eat him.’ But she has hidden her son.”

Jeremiah 14:1-6

Famine, Sword, and Pestilence

1The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning cthe drought:

2 dJudah mourns,
and eher gates languish;
her people lament on the ground,
and fthe cry of Jerusalem goes up.
3Her nobles send their servants for water;
they come to the cisterns;
they find no water;
they return with their vessels empty;
they are gashamed and confounded
and hcover their heads.
4Because of the ground that is dismayed,
since there is ino rain on the land,
the farmers are ashamed;
they cover their heads.
5Even jthe doe in the field forsakes her newborn fawn
because there is no grass.
6 kThe wild donkeys stand on the bare heights;
they pant for air like jackals;
their eyes fail
because there is no vegetation.

Lamentations 4:3-10

3 Even jackals offer the breast;
they nurse their young;
but the daughter of my people has become cruel,
like the ostriches in the wilderness.
4 The tongue of the nursing infant lsticks
to the roof of its mouth for thirst;
mthe children beg for food,
but no one gives to them.
5 Those who once feasted on delicacies
perish in the streets;
nthose who were brought up in purple
embrace ash heaps.
6 oFor the chastisement
Or iniquity
of the daughter of my people has been greater
than the punishment
Or sin
of Sodom,
rwhich was overthrown in a moment,
and no hands were wrung for her.

whiter than milk;
their bodies were more ruddy than coral,
the beauty of their form

8 vNow their face is blacker than soot;
they are not recognized in the streets;
their skin has shriveled on their bones;
it has become as dry as wood.
9 Happier were the victims of the sword
than the victims of hunger,
who wasted away, pierced
by lack of the fruits of the field.
10 wThe hands of xcompassionate women
yhave boiled their own children;
zthey became their food
during the destruction of the daughter of my people.
