2 Kings 9:17-20

17Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he saw the company of Jehu as he came and said, “I see a company.” And Joram said, “Take a horseman and send to meet them, and let him say, ‘Is it peace?’” 18So a man on horseback went to meet him and said, “Thus says the king, ‘Is it peace?’” And Jehu said, “What do you have to do with peace? Turn around and ride behind me.” And the watchman reported, saying, “The messenger reached them, but he is not coming back.” 19Then he sent out a second horseman, who came to them and said, “Thus the king has said, ‘Is it peace?’” And Jehu answered, “What do you have to do with peace? Turn around and ride behind me.” 20Again the watchman reported, “He reached them, but he is not coming back. And the driving ais like the driving of Jehu bthe son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously.”

Ezekiel 33:2-7

2 mSon of man, speak to nyour people and say to them, If oI bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their pwatchman, 3and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and qblows the trumpet and warns the people, 4then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, rhis blood shall be upon his own head. 5 sHe heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. 6 tBut if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, uthat person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.

7 v“So you, wson of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. xWhenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me.
