17 Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he saw the company of Jehu as he came and said, “I see a company.” And Joram said, “Take a horseman and send to meet them, and let him say, ‘Is it peace?’” 18 So a man on horseback went to meet him and said, “Thus says the king, ‘Is it peace?’” And Jehu said, “What do you have to do with peace? Turn around and ride behind me.” And the watchman reported, saying, “The messenger reached them, but he is not coming back.” 19 Then he sent out a second horseman, who came to them and said, “Thus the king has said, ‘Is it peace?’” And Jehu answered, “What do you have to do with peace? Turn around and ride behind me.” 20 Again the watchman reported, “He reached them, but he is not coming back. And the driving ^ais like the driving of Jehu ^bthe son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously.”

Isaiah 62:6

6 On your walls, O Jerusalem,
I have set ^cwatchmen;
all the day and all the night
they shall never be silent.
You who put the Lord in remembrance,
take no rest,

Jeremiah 51:12-13

12 ^d“Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon;
^emake the watch strong;

what he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

Ezekiel 3:17

17 ^h“Son of man, ⁱI have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall ^jgive them warning from me.

Ezekiel 33:2-7

2 ^k“Son of man, speak to ^lyour people and say to them, If ^mI bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their ⁿwatchman, 3 and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and ^oblows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, ^phis blood shall be upon his own head. 5 ^qHe heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. 6 ^rBut if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, ^sthat person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.

7 ^t“So you, ^uson of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. ^vWhenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me.

Habakkuk 2:1-2

1 I will ^wtake my stand at my watchpost
and station myself on the tower,
