2 Samuel 11:2-5

2It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his couch and was walking on athe roof of the king’s house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful. 3And David sent and inquired about the woman. And one said, “Is not this bBathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of cUriah the Hittite?” 4So David sent messengers and took her, and she came to him, and he lay with her. ( dNow she had been purifying herself from her uncleanness.) Then she returned to her house. 5And the woman conceived, and she sent and told David, “I am pregnant.”

Do Not Forsake Me, O Lord

A Psalm of David, ifor the memorial offering.

1 O Lord, jrebuke me not in your anger,
nor discipline me in your wrath!
2For your karrows have sunk into me,
and your hand lhas come down on me.
3 There is mno soundness in my flesh
because of your indignation;
there is no health in my nbones
because of my sin.
4For my oiniquities have gone over my head;
like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.
5 My wounds stink and fester
because of my foolishness,
6I am putterly bowed down and qprostrate;
all the day I rgo about mourning.
7For my sides are filled with burning,
and there is sno soundness in my flesh.
8I am feeble and crushed;
I tgroan because of the tumult of my heart.
