Esther Agrees to Help the Jews

1When Mordecai learned all that had been done, Mordecai tore his clothes cand put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and he cried out with a loud and bitter cry. 2He went up to the entrance of the king’s gate, for no one was allowed to enter the king’s gate clothed in sackcloth. 3And in every province, wherever the king’s command and his decree reached, there was great mourning among the Jews, dwith fasting and weeping and lamenting, and many of them elay in sackcloth and ashes.

4When Esther’s young women and her eunuchs came and told her, the queen was deeply distressed. She sent garments to clothe Mordecai, so that he might take off his sackcloth, but he would not accept them.

Esther Prepares a Banquet

1 fOn the third day Esther put on her royal robes and stood in gthe inner court of the king’s palace, in front of the king’s quarters, while the king was sitting on his royal throne inside the throne room opposite the entrance to the palace.

Isaiah 61:3

3to grant to those who mourn in Zion
hto give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
ithe oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
jthat they may be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, kthat he may be glorified.
Or  that he may display his beauty

Isaiah 61:10

10 mI will greatly rejoice in the Lord;
my soul shall exult in my God,
nfor he has clothed me with the garments of salvation;
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself olike a priest with a beautiful headdress,
pand as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
