War with the Philistines

15There was war again between the Philistines and Israel, and David went down together with his servants, and they fought against the Philistines. And David grew weary. 16And Ishbi-benob, one of the descendants cof the giants, whose spear weighed three hundred shekels
A  shekel was about 2/5 ounce or 11 grams
of bronze, and who was armed with a new sword, thought to kill David.
17But Abishai the son of Zeruiah came to his aid and attacked the Philistine and killed him. Then David’s men swore to him, e“You shall no longer go out with us to battle, lest you quench fthe lamp of Israel.”

Remember Your Creator in Your Youth

1Remember also your Creator in mthe days of your youth, before nthe evil days come and the years draw near of which oyou will say, “I have no pleasure in them”; 2before pthe sun and the light and the moon and the stars are darkened and the clouds return after the rain, 3in the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men are bent, and the grinders cease because they are few, and qthose who look through the windows are dimmed, 4and rthe doors on the street are shut—when sthe sound of the grinding is low, and one rises up at the sound of a bird, and all tthe daughters of song are brought low 5they are afraid also of what is high, and uterrors are in the way; the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper drags itself along,
Or is a burden
and desire fails, because man is going to his weternal xhome, and the ymourners go about the streets
6before the silver cord is snapped, or zthe golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is aashattered at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern, 7and abthe dust returns to the earth as it was, and acthe spirit returns to God adwho gave it.
