2 Samuel 2:14-16

14 And Abner said to Joab, “Let the young men arise and compete before us.” And Joab said, “Let them arise.” 15 Then they arose and passed over by number, twelve for Benjamin and Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David. 16 And each caught his opponent by the head and thrust his sword in his opponent’s side, so they fell down together. Therefore that place was called Helkath-hazzurim, ^{▼▼ Helkath-hazzurim means the field of sword-edges} which is at Gibeon.

2 Samuel 2:26

26 Then Abner called to Joab, “Shall the sword devour forever? Do you not know that the end will be bitter? How long will it be before you tell your people to turn from the pursuit of their brothers?”

2 Kings 14:8-12

8 ^bThen Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash ^{▼▼ Jehoash is an alternate spelling of Joash (son of Jehoahaz) as in 13:9, 12–14; also verses 9, 11–16} the son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, ^dlet us look one another in the face.” 9 And Jehoash king of Israel sent word to Amaziah king of Judah, ^e“A thistle on Lebanon sent to a cedar on Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son for a wife,’ and a wild beast of Lebanon passed by and trampled down the thistle. 10 You have indeed ^fstruck down Edom, ^gand your heart has lifted you up. Be content with your glory, and stay at home, for why should you provoke trouble so that you fall, you and Judah with you?”

11 But Amaziah would not listen. So Jehoash king of Israel went up, and he and Amaziah king of Judah ^hfaced one another in battle at ⁱBeth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah. 12 And Judah was defeated by Israel, ^jand every man fled to his home.
