David Anointed King of Israel

1 Then all the tribes of Israel ^ecame to David at Hebron and said, “Behold, ^fwe are your bone and flesh. 2 In times past, when Saul was king over us, ^git was you who led out and brought in Israel. And the Lord said to you, ^h‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince ^{▼▼Or leader} over Israel.’” 3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, ^jand King David made a covenant with them at Hebron ^kbefore the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel.

2 Samuel 19:14

14 And he swayed the heart of all the men of Judah ^las one man, so that they sent word to the king, “Return, both you and all your servants.”

2 Samuel 19:41-43

41 Then all the men of Israel came to the king and said to the king, “Why have our brothers the men of Judah stolen you away and ^mbrought the king and his household over the Jordan, and all David’s men with him?” 42 All the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, “Because the king is ⁿour close relative. Why then are you angry over this matter? Have we eaten at all at the king’s expense? Or has he given us any gift?” 43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, “We have ^oten shares in the king, and in David also we have more than you. Why then did you despise us? Were we not the first to speak of bringing back our king?” ^pBut the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

The Rebellion of Sheba

1 Now there happened to be there ^qa worthless man, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjaminite. And he blew the trumpet and said,

^r“We have no portion in David,
and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse;
^severy man to his tents, O Israel!”
2 So all the men of Israel withdrew from David and followed Sheba the son of Bichri. But the men of Judah followed their king steadfastly from the Jordan to Jerusalem.

1 Chronicles 11:1-3

1 Chronicles 12:38-40

38 All these, men of war, arrayed in battle order, came to Hebron with ^wa whole heart to make David king over all Israel. Likewise, all the rest of Israel were of a ^xsingle mind to make David king. 39 And they were there with David for three days, eating and drinking, for their brothers had made preparation for them. 40 And also their relatives, from as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, came bringing food on donkeys and on camels and on mules and on oxen, abundant provisions of flour, ^ycakes of figs, clusters of raisins, and wine and oil, oxen and sheep, for there was joy in Israel.

Matthew 21:8-10

8 Most of the crowd ^zspread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, ^aa“Hosanna to ^abthe Son of David! ^acBlessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna ^adin the highest!” 10 And ^aewhen he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?”
