2 Samuel 7:1-5

The Lord’s Covenant with David

1 aNow when the king lived in his house and the Lord bhad given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, 2the king said to cNathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell din a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells ein a tent.” 3And Nathan said to the king, f“Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.”

4But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, 5“Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: gWould you build me a house to dwell in?

1 Kings 8:17-19

17 hNow it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 18But the Lord said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart. 19 iNevertheless, you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’
