The Lord’s Covenant with David

1 aNow when the king lived in his house and the Lord bhad given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, 2the king said to cNathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell din a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells ein a tent.” 3And Nathan said to the king, fGo, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.”

4But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, 5Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: gWould you build me a house to dwell in?

1 Kings 8:17-19

17 hNow it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 18But the Lord said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart. 19 iNevertheless, you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’

1 Chronicles 17:1-4

3But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, 4Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: kIt is not you who will build me a house to dwell in.

1 Chronicles 22:7-8

7David said to Solomon, “My son, lI had it in my heart to build a house to the name of the Lord my God. 8But the word of the Lord came to me, saying, m‘You have shed much blood and have waged great wars. You shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed so much blood before me on the earth.

1 Chronicles 28:2-3

2Then King David rose to his feet and said: “Hear me, my brothers and my people. nI had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord and for the ofootstool of our God, and I made preparations for building. 3But God said to me, p‘You may not build a house for my name, for you are a man of war and have shed blood.’

1 Chronicles 29:2-3

2So I have provided for the house of my God, so far as I was able, the gold for the things of gold, the silver for the things of silver, and the bronze for the things of bronze, the iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood, besides great quantities of qonyx and stones for setting, antimony, colored stones, all sorts of precious stones and marble. 3Moreover, in addition to all that I have provided for the holy house, I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, and because of my devotion to the house of my God I give it to the house of my God:
