David’s Prayer of Gratitude
18Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and said, a“Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far?2 Samuel 12:10

Adonijah Sets Himself Up as King
5Now cAdonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” dAnd he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.1 Kings 2:24-25
24Now therefore eas the Lord lives, who has established me and placed me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, fas he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death today.” 25So King Solomon sent gBenaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he struck him down, and he died.1 Kings 11:6-8
6So Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and did not wholly follow the Lord, as David his father had done. 7Then Solomon built a high place for hChemosh the abomination of Moab, and for iMolech the abomination of the Ammonites, on the mountain east of Jerusalem. 8And so he did for all his foreign wives, who made offerings and sacrificed to their gods.1 Kings 12:14
14he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, j“My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.”
