2 Samuel 7:5-11

5Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: aWould you build me a house to dwell in? 6I have not lived in a house bsince the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about cin a tent for my dwelling. 7In all places where dI have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with eany of the judges

8Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, hI took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince

9 jAnd I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. 10And I will appoint a place for my people Israel kand will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place land be disturbed no more. mAnd violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, 11 nfrom the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And oI will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that pthe Lord will make you a house.

1 Chronicles 22:4-6

4and cedar timbers without number, qfor the Sidonians and Tyrians brought great quantities of cedar to David. 5For David said, rSolomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and glory throughout all lands. I will therefore make preparation for it.” So David provided materials in great quantity before his death.

Solomon Charged to Build the Temple

6Then he called for Solomon his son and charged him to build a house for the Lord, the God of Israel.

2 Chronicles 6:6-8

6 sbut I have chosen Jerusalem that my name may be there, tand I have chosen David to be over my people Israel.’ 7 uNow it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 8But the Lord said to David my father, ‘Whereas vit was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart.
