5 ^aAnd when the ^bSyrians of Damascus came to help ^cHadadezer king of ^dZobah, David struck down 22,000 men of the Syrians. 6 Then David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Syrians ^ebecame servants to David and brought tribute. ^fAnd the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went.

23 God also raised up as an adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his master ^gHadadezer king of Zobah. 24 And he gathered men about him and became leader of a marauding band, ^hafter the killing by David. And they went to Damascus and lived there and made him king in Damascus.
