9 Then the king called Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said to him, “All that belonged to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master’s grandson. 10 And you and your sons and your servants shall till the land for him and shall bring in the produce, that your master’s grandson may have bread to eat. But Mephibosheth your master’s grandson ^dshall always eat at my table.” Now Ziba had ^efifteen sons and twenty servants.

Psalms 37:34

34 ^fWait for the Lord and keep his way,
and he will exalt you to inherit the land;

Ecclesiastes 2:18-26

The Vanity of Toil

18 I hated ^hall my toil in which I toil under the sun, seeing that I must ⁱleave it to the man who will come after me, 19 and who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will be master of all for which I toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity. 20 So I ^jturned about and gave my heart up to despair ^kover all the toil of my labors under the sun, 21 because sometimes a person who has toiled with wisdom and knowledge and skill must leave everything to be enjoyed by someone who did not toil for it. This also is vanity and a great evil. 22 What has a man from ^lall the toil and striving of heart with which he toils beneath the sun? 23 For ^mall his days are full of sorrow, and his ⁿwork is a vexation. Even in the night his heart does not rest. This also is vanity.

24 ^oThere is nothing better for a person than that he should ^peat and drink and find enjoyment ^{▼▼Or and make his soul see good} in his toil. This also, I saw, is ^rfrom the hand of God, 25 for apart from him ^{▼▼Some Hebrew manuscripts, Septuagint, Syriac; most Hebrew manuscripts apart from me} who can eat or who can have enjoyment? 26 For to the one who pleases him ^tGod has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the sinner he has given ^uthe business of gathering and collecting, ^vonly to give to one who pleases God. ^wThis also is vanity and a striving after wind.

Ecclesiastes 5:13-14

13 ^xThere is a grievous evil that I have seen under the sun: riches were kept by their owner to his hurt, 14 and those riches were lost in a bad venture. And he is father of a son, but he has nothing in his hand.

Daniel 2:48
