James 2:15-24

15 dIf a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 eand one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good
Or benefit
is that?
17So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith gapart from your works, and I will show you my faith hby my works. 19 iYou believe that God is one; you do well. Even jthe demons believeand shudder! 20Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? 21 kWas not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22You see that lfaith was active along with his works, and faith was completed mby his works; 23and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, nAbraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a ofriend of God. 24You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

1 John 3:14-17

14We know that pwe have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. 15 qEveryone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that rno murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

16By this we know love, that she laid down his life for us, and twe ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17But uif anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet vcloses his heart against him, whow does God’s love abide in him?
