2 Thessalonians 2

The Man of Lawlessness

1Now concerning athe coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our bbeing gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters; also verses 13, 15
2not to be quickly shaken in mind or dalarmed, either eby a spirit or a fspoken word, or ga letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that hthe day of the Lord has come. 3 iLet no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, junless the rebellion comes first, and kthe man of lawlessness
Some manuscripts sin
is revealed, mthe son of destruction,
Greek  the son of perdition (a Hebrew idiom)
4who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, oproclaiming himself to be God. 5Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time. 7For pthe mystery of lawlessness qis already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. 8And then rthe lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus swill kill with tthe breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by uthe appearance of his coming. 9The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan vwith all power and false signs and wonders, 10and with all wicked deception for wthose who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11Therefore xGod sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe ywhat is false, 12in order that all may be condemned zwho did not believe the truth but aahad pleasure in unrighteousness.

Stand Firm

13But abwe ought always to give thanks to God for you, acbrothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you adas the firstfruits
Some manuscripts  chose you from the beginning
afto be saved, agthrough sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.
14To this he called you through ahour gospel, aiso that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15So then, brothers, ajstand firm and hold to akthe traditions that you were taught by us, either alby our spoken word or by amour letter.

16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, anwho loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good aohope through grace, 17comfort your hearts and apestablish them in every good work and word.

1 Timothy 4

Some Will Depart from the Faith

1Now aqthe Spirit expressly says that arin later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to asdeceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2through the insincerity of atliars whose consciences are seared, 3 auwho forbid marriage and avrequire abstinence from foods awthat God created axto be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4For ayeverything created by God is good, and aznothing is to be rejected if it is bareceived with thanksgiving, 5for it is made holy bbby the word of God and prayer.

A Good Servant of Christ Jesus

6 bcIf you put these things before the brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters. The plural Greek word adelphoi (translated “brothers”) refers to siblings in a family. In New Testament usage, depending on the context, adelphoi may refer either to men or to both men and women who are siblings (brothers and sisters) in God’s family, the church
you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you have befollowed.
7Have nothing to do with irreverent, bfsilly myths. Rather bgtrain yourself for godliness; 8for while bhbodily training is of some value, godliness biis of value in every way, as bjit holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 9The saying is bktrustworthy and deserving of full acceptance. 10For to this end we toil and strive,
Some manuscripts  and suffer reproach
because we have our hope set on the living God, bmwho is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

11Command and teach bnthese things. 12 boLet no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers bpan example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. 14 bqDo not neglect the gift you have, which was given you brby prophecy when the council of elders bslaid their hands on you. 15Practice these things, immerse yourself in them,
Greek be in them
so that buall may see your progress.
16 bvKeep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save bwboth yourself and bxyour hearers.
