Acts 13:46-48

46And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, “It was necessary that the word of God abe spoken first to you. bSince you thrust it aside and judge yourselves cunworthy of eternal life, behold, we dare turning to the Gentiles. 47 eFor so the Lord has commanded us, saying,

f“‘I have made you ga light for the Gentiles,
that you may hbring salvation to the ends of the earth.’”
48And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and iglorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

Acts 28:23-28

23When they had appointed a day for him, they came to him at his lodging in greater numbers. From morning till evening jhe expounded to them, testifying to kthe kingdom of God and ltrying to convince them about Jesus mboth from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets. 24And nsome were convinced by what he said, but others disbelieved. 25And disagreeing among themselves, they departed after Paul had made one statement: oThe Holy Spirit was right in saying to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:

26 p“‘Go to this people, and say,
q“You will indeed hear but never understand,
and you will indeed see but never perceive.”
27 rFor this people’s heart has grown dull,
and with their ears they can barely hear,
and their eyes they have closed;
lest they should see with their eyes
and hear with their ears
and understand with their heart
and sturn, and I would heal them.’
28Therefore let it be known to you that tthis usalvation of God vhas been sent to the Gentiles; wthey will listen.”
Some manuscripts add verse 29: And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, having much dispute among themselves

Romans 9:30-33

Israel’s Unbelief

30What shall we say, then? yThat Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, za righteousness that is by faith; 31but that Israel aawho pursued a law that would lead to righteousness
Greek  a law of righteousness
acdid not succeed in reaching that law.
32Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the adstumbling stone, 33as it is written,

aeBehold, I am laying in Zion afa stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense;
agand whoever believes in him will not be ahput to shame.”

Romans 10:20-21

20Then Isaiah is so bold as to say,

ai“I have been found by those who did not seek me;
I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.”
21But of Israel he says, ajAll day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”

Romans 11:1-12

The Remnant of Israel

1I ask, then, akhas God rejected his people? By no means! For alI myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham,
Or one of the offspring of Abraham
a member of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 anGod has not rejected his people whom he aoforeknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he appeals to God against Israel? 3 apLord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life.” 4But what is God’s reply to him? aq“I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” 5So too at the present time there is ara remnant, chosen by grace. 6 asBut if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

7What then? atIsrael failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest auwere hardened, 8as it is written,

avGod gave them a spirit of stupor,
aweyes that would not see
and ears that would not hear,
down to this very day.”
9And David says,

ax“Let their table become a snare and a trap,
a stumbling block and a retribution for them;
10let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see,
and bend their backs forever.”

Gentiles Grafted In

11So I ask, did they stumble in order that they might fall? By no means! Rather, through their trespass aysalvation has come to the Gentiles, so as to make Israel jealous. 12Now if their trespass means riches for the world, and if their failure means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their full inclusion
Greek  their fullness
mean!
